It's Time For A Proper Introduction

While Paul was in Athens, he used the idea of the unknown god to segue into witnessing about the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Paul affirmed that there was a God of whom they had been ignorant. Paul took this witnessing and teaching moment to properly introduce them to This Unknown God. He made the unknown God, known to them.

Defeating Doubt

Doubt and discouragement can infect the best of us. John the Baptist is now at the lowest point in his ministry. He is now second-guessing his whole life’s work. He is wondering if he made a mistake in declaring that Jesus is the Lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world.
Scripture: Matthew 11:2-5

Divine Deliverance

Paul gives us more of his personal history in this letter than in any of his other epistles. He tells of his escape from Damascus in a basket. He tells of his experience of being caught up in the third heaven. He speaks of his thorn in the flesh. He speaks many times of his unusual suffering.
Scripture: 2nd Corinthians 1:8-10

The Impact Of The Cross

We have just celebrated the resurrection of our Savior. Why go back so quickly to the sadness and horrors of the cross of Calvary. There are two reasons. The first reason is obvious. This is the scheduled communion Sunday for our congregation. Secondly, because, unapologetically, Christianity is the religion of the cross.

Celebrity Sightings

The greatest celebrity sightings of all times were the appearances of Christ between His resurrection and His ascension. Paul here is addressing several misunderstandings about the resurrection. His first step in clearing up these misunderstandings is to prove conclusively that the resurrection is a historical fact.

Risen Indeed Just As He Said (Resurrection Sunday)

More than a dozen times, Jesus told his disciples that He would be crucified, but that He would also rise again on the third day. After witnessing the cruelty of the Roman soldiers, the plotting of the religious leaders, his rejection by the people, and their knowledge of how brutal death by a Roman cross would be, they had lost all hope of His resurrection.

It's Different This Time

The entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, on what we now call Palm Sunday, was not His first time in that city. This trip was a signal change in the manner in which He had presented Himself to the people. Heretofore, Jesus had been careful to avoid publicity about His messiahship; now, He invited it.
Scripture: Matthew 21:10

A Blind Man With Perfect Vision

Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. The proverbial rubber was about to meet the road. He was on His way to the Last Supper, to the agony in Gethsemane, to the betrayal of Judas, to the abandonment of ten disciples, to the denial of Peter, to the march to Calvary, to the cruel death of the cross.
Scripture: Mark 10:46-52

The Savior's Survey

Ministry can be draining. For that matter, life can be draining – very draining. Sometimes, you need to be by yourself to recharge. Sometimes, you need to be with a small group to recharge. We all need quiet time with the Lord.
Scripture: Matthew 16:13-18

The Call Of The Cross

All through our Lord’s ministry, he heard the call of the cross. However, as Jesus neared the sunset of His earthly ministry, He seemed to hear more loudly and clearly the call of the cross and His mission to provide the way to eternal life. As we shall soon commemorate Holy Communion, we too should hear again the call of the cross.
Scripture: Matthew 26:39

Rivers That Tell Our Stories

Our ancestors were on to something deeper than they realized. The course of human history is like a river, sometimes placid, sometimes widely turgid, with many twists and turns. Sometimes we see nobleness, compassion, and integrity, and then we see unrelenting meanness, senseless wars, sexism, and genocidal racism.
Scripture: Psalm 137: 1-6, Psalm 46: 1-5
