Supply And Demand (God’s Divine Economy)
In our text, as Moses blessed the tribe of Asher, he told them that God would provide them strength to meet the needs of each day. “As thy days, so shall thy strength be.” This reminds me of how God’s divine economy of grace is different from our modern economies.
The Isaac Test
There comes a time in life where each of us must undergo a crucial test. Life is full of tests from the womb to the tomb, but one may be the toughest we will ever have to encounter. Such was the case of Abraham in our text.
Holy Helpers
These two verses of Scripture could easily spawn multiple sermons or Bible lessons. However, we are concentrating on the one word, which the King James Version translates as, “helps.” We could say today, helpers or assistants. Yes, helping is a spiritual gift and there are many members of Antioch who possess it.
How Much More? (A Father's Day Sermon)
I will begin by saying that we have some great fathers at Antioch-Lithonia. Jesus used an inequality, in this Scripture, to express how great God’s love is toward us. He stated the attributes of a great human father, and then stated that God’s love is so much greater.
Stop And Celebrate! Then Resume Your Journey
The children of Israel wandered in the wilderness for forty years. Periodically, Moses would stop in a favorable place, and there they would celebrate the goodness of God and praise Him for things being as well as they were. There was a tendency by some to make this location their permanent residence. They wanted to settle there and not go to the promise land.
It's Time For A Proper Introduction
While Paul was in Athens, he used the idea of the unknown god to segue into witnessing about the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Paul affirmed that there was a God of whom they had been ignorant. Paul took this witnessing and teaching moment to properly introduce them to This Unknown God. He made the unknown God, known to them.
Defeating Doubt
Doubt and discouragement can infect the best of us. John the Baptist is now at the lowest point in his ministry. He is now second-guessing his whole life’s work. He is wondering if he made a mistake in declaring that Jesus is the Lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world.
Divine Deliverance
Paul gives us more of his personal history in this letter than in any of his other epistles. He tells of his escape from Damascus in a basket. He tells of his experience of being caught up in the third heaven. He speaks of his thorn in the flesh. He speaks many times of his unusual suffering.
A Great Lesson From A Chicken (A Mother’s Day Sermon)
This passage of Scripture is unique in many ways. Jesus uses a figure of speech to describe Himself in a way that is very strange and even awkward for us to repeat. We are used to quoting Him as He said He is the Good Shepherd. We are familiar with Him referring to Himself as the Bread of Life.
The Impact Of The Cross
We have just celebrated the resurrection of our Savior. Why go back so quickly to the sadness and horrors of the cross of Calvary. There are two reasons. The first reason is obvious. This is the scheduled communion Sunday for our congregation. Secondly, because, unapologetically, Christianity is the religion of the cross.
Celebrity Sightings
The greatest celebrity sightings of all times were the appearances of Christ between His resurrection and His ascension. Paul here is addressing several misunderstandings about the resurrection. His first step in clearing up these misunderstandings is to prove conclusively that the resurrection is a historical fact.
Risen Indeed Just As He Said (Resurrection Sunday)
More than a dozen times, Jesus told his disciples that He would be crucified, but that He would also rise again on the third day. After witnessing the cruelty of the Roman soldiers, the plotting of the religious leaders, his rejection by the people, and their knowledge of how brutal death by a Roman cross would be, they had lost all hope of His resurrection.
It's Different This Time
The entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, on what we now call Palm Sunday, was not His first time in that city. This trip was a signal change in the manner in which He had presented Himself to the people. Heretofore, Jesus had been careful to avoid publicity about His messiahship; now, He invited it.
